New intensive sink training from The Concrete Countertop Institute.
September 29, 2006
The Concrete Countertop Institute has announced expanded concrete sink training, with its new class “Advanced Sinks & Molds 202”. The expanded class debuts on October 12-13, 2006 at the Institute’s Raleigh, NC training facility.
The class is open to anyone who has at least one year of experience making precast concrete countertops for paying customers, or who has attended a Concrete Countertop Institute class teaching precast concrete countertops. The new class features mold-making, reinforcing and casting techniques for ramp sinks, vessel sinks, and kitchen sinks. Jeffrey Girard, P.E., President of The Concrete Countertop Institute, says, "The ability to make complex and custom shapes such as round, angled or irregular sinks is part of the uniqueness of concrete countertops. I feel that this class will help precast concrete countertop professionals expand their options and ultimately benefit the industry as a whole."
During the 2-day class, limited to 20 students, teams of 2-3 students make an integral concrete sink of their choosing incorporated in a small bathroom vanity. Girard says, “I encourage students to get creative. These are experienced students who have either attended my precast class or have experience on their own, so I expect them to be able to execute the basics of a bathroom vanity. I just give them to the knowledge and tools to add complexity and really utilize their creativity. I expect these advanced students to be self-motivated, enjoy a challenge, and work independently.”
The class also covers edge returns, reinforcing 3-dimensional shapes, fancy edging, custom embedments and ramp and groove style drainboards. Girard demonstrates making molds from pourable rubber and the use of commercial fiberglass sink molds such as those from Buddy Rhodes Concrete Products. Both hard-packed and fluid mix techniques are covered. The cost of the 2-day class is $995, and includes all materials and a detailed textbook.
