  • Seminar: Concrete Countertops: Getting it Right! - 10:00 AM - noon on Wednesday, March 17, 2010.

Find out what it takes to make a high-quality countertop and avoid common mistakes...

Tired of doing it over again? Wondering why things go wrong? Frustrated by inconsistency? Learn what it takes to make a high-quality concrete countertop, how to avoid mistakes, what's really important, and how to be successful with sealers. Jeff Girard, President of The Concrete Countertop Institute, will take you through the fundamentals of reinforced concrete, demystify how concrete works, discuss different sealer technologies and how to test their performance, and talk about what this means to your client. He will also cover topics important to success in a countertop business.

Wednesday, March 17th - 10:00 AM to noon
(The seminar is a prerequisite for the Jeff Girard workshop on Thursday and Friday.)

  • Workshop: The Next Generation Concrete Countertop

Can a high-quality countertop be made in only two days on a tight timeline?

The two-part workshop will demonstrate what it takes to make a high-quality countertop in only two days. Jeffrey Girard will start with a countertop forming demonstration, continuing through casting, finishing and finally sealing. He will cover the areas critical for success, including sinkhole placement, edge caulking, sealer selection and troubleshooting pointers. Part 1 will include forming, reinforcing and casting. Part 2 will see the countertop de-molded, processed, grouted and sealed. Finally, lemons and other staining agents will be left on the countertop for the remainder of the workshop, demonstrating that a high-quality concrete countertop can be produced in a short period of time without sacrificing strength, stain resistance or appearance. A certificate of completion will be provided.

Part 1 on Thursday, March 18, 2010, 8:00 AM to noon and Part 2 on Friday, March 19, 2010, 8:00 AM to noon
(Prerequisite: Jeff Girard's Concrete Countertops Seminar on March 17th - 10:00 AM to noon.)

Registration is now open!
